"I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals."
– Sir Winston Churchill, UK Prime Minster (1874-1965)
Are you interested in adopting miniature pigs?
Pig Pals of NC has been educating the public about the true nature of this incredible species since 1995.
You can be assured that we will give you accurate, truthful
information.
About Miniature
Pigs
Pigs are the 4th most intelligent mammal after humans (primates,
whales/dophins, pigs).
Most dog breeds are natural predators to pigs and will attack,
hurt, kill them.
The terms teacup, micro-mini, and nano are simply marketing
names for the same breeds introduced to the U.S. over 25 years
ago.
Pigs are not full-grown until they are 4 years of age. It is
considered rare to find a pet pig in the U.S. that stays a healthy
body weight under 30#.

Pig Pals of NC began in 1996 as a social club of pig owners meeting to talk about their pig pals. The need for rescue was quickly recognized and so began the journey to help miniature pigs.
Pig Pals of NC has a 501c3 status with the Internal Revenue Service.
As the journey of Pig Pals of NC comes full circle through another
decade of dealing with unscrupulous people who want to make money
from animals, our organization must concentrate its effort on the
over 50 abandoned, neglected, and abused pigs currently in its
care. Pig Pals of NC continues its efforts through educational
outreach to schools, retirement facilities, fundraising events,
etc... and through this website strives to make sure that everyone
receives the most up-to-date information on the behavior, care, and
management of miniature pigs.
Pig Pals of NC does NOT take owner-forfeited pigs UNLESS the pigs were adopted from Pig Pals of NC. All pigs adopted from Pig Pals of NC are required by law to be returned to our organization if the adoptive family can no longer keep them.
To maintain the health
and well-being of our animals, all of our pigs are
spayed/neutered.
We encourage you to
browse our information and use it as a tool in your journey of
learning about potbellied pigs as pets. As of 2011, there have been no new
breeds of miniature pigs introduced into the U.S. that stay under
40# by the time they are full-grown at 4 years of age. Don't get
"duped". Check out our educational
document.
