Penny S. Jeffrey,
Ph.D. purchased her first pig in 1996 from a backyard
breeder that presented her limited (and inaccurate) information
about pigs as pets. As a result of this, she found other pig owners
with similar problems and began a social club and then an
educational, rescue organization to help other pigs and their
people. Penny served as President of the North American Potbellied
Pig Assn (NAPPA) as well as lecturing about pig nutrition at
national pig symposia.
Kristie Mozzachio, D.VM., D.A.C.V.P is a toxicologic pathologist that moonlights as a potbellied pig clinician, operating a part-time, mobile, “pet pig exclusive” practice serving the states of NC and MD. She also provides consults both nationwide and internationally. She is a veterinary advisor for NAPPA (North American Potbellied Pig Association) and has lectured on the species at numerous meetings including the NC Veterinary Conference, the Potbellied Pig Symposium, Special Species Symposium and the SCAVMA (Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association) Symposium. Dr. Mozzachio operates a potbellied pig spay/neuter clinic and serves as adjunct faculty at NCSU-CVM, specializing in minipigs (of course). She currently owns 3 pigs, the oldest almost 19 years of age
D. Meyer, M.Ed. has been involved with the inner lives of miniature pigs for 17 years. For even longer she has written a column about animals for a newspaper and it is her belief that pigs, and animals of all types, are so much more intelligent than we can even imagine. Four lovely, elderly miniature pigs reside on her farm in Chatham County.
Mikael Hardy has been involved in animal welfare & rescue for 20 + years. Her work, until April 2011 revolved mainly around canine issues such as : chained dogs, spay/neuter/ puppy mills. Mikael joined PPNC soon after relocating in 2011 from SC. Mikael follows the words of MLK JR. "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way." ~~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
